Who among us knew that Rachel Ray and Martha Stewart have a long standing feud that's not only simmered and bubbled for quite some time, it actually predates, and some might even say, rivals Anthony Bourdain's outspoken disdain of Paula Dean.
It was another case of expert vs entertainer when the Goddess of all Good Things made the following comment on a 2009 segment of Nightline: “Rachael just did a new cookbook, which is just a re-edit of a lot of her older recipes. And that’s not good enough for me . . . Rachael is different. She’s more of an entertainer . . . with her bubbly personality, than she is teacher, like me."
Rachael Ray, ever the wise, *ahem* entertainer, took the high road and responded: "Her skill set is far beyond mine," she said. "That's simply the reality of it. That doesn't mean what I do isn't important, too . . . I don't consider it needling. I really just think she's being honest."
The pots apparently began to simmer on this one shortly after Rachel Ray and Martha Stewart appeared as guests on each other's shows and Stewart, in a burst uber maganimity, added one final thought before the entire thing was put to rest.
"I applaud Rachel for her enthusiastic approach to cooking and I really had a great time being a guest on her show and it was a lot of fun to have her on this show making pie," Stewart said on-air. "Come on back Rachael, anytime you want and I hope you have a Yum-o Thanksgiving."
I know. What abitchy unusual thing to say.
But karma, as they say, has a way of coming back and taking a big ol bite - which in Ms Stewart's case means to the pride because after Martha's show was cancelled, enthusiastic Rachael Ray and her crew moved into Stewart's old studio!
As an aside, it was widely reported that Ray insisted the entire space be cleansed of all negative energy before moving in and had her staff "Sage the place down" - a spiritual practice said to remove unwanted evil spirits and the ghosts of flambe past.
Martha Stewart is now said to have her knives out, sharpened, and ready to go ninja if given half a chance - which she almost got in March when she and Rachael Ray were spotted dining in the same restaurant. Apparently the chill coming off Stewart had people wondering if Mr Freeze had entered the building.
Witnesses say Stewart's icy glare made Ray so uncomfortable she left after the appetizer course, taking her dinner home in a doggie bag.
I can't say I blame her.
People, would you want this woman as your enemy?
And that's the blog!
So pull up a chair and get ready for today's amazing cocktail - this time in celebration of Motherhood and thecompetition sisterhood between women ;)
Fresh and Fruity Peach Bellini
Place 1 cup of frozen peaches between two layers of crushed ice in a 16 ounce pitcher. Pour in 1 cup of inexpensive sweet champagne, 1/4 cup of peach schnapps, 1 cup of peach and mango juice, and 1 squeeze of fresh lemon, give it a good stir, and enjoy!

I have learned so many things about so many things from La Martha over the last 20 years. I've learned just one thing from Rach. How to change the channel super quick. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you Andra, I too have learned a lot from her. I actually really miss her old Martha Stewart Living show I just loved it. Rachel Ray seems to be someone people either love or hate. I have to admit, though, I've tried several of her recipes and they've all been good.
DeleteAh, love your take on things. Unfortunately, I think one lady has a burr up her butt, and the other is just insanely annoying. I think Martha's just upset that she didn't think of marketing a garbage bowl. :P
ReplyDeleteI know! I too have lost sleep over that one ;)
DeleteI read somewhere about this fued, it doesn't surprise me, Rachel Ray is so spontanious and fly by the seat of pants and Martha Stewart is so ridgid and stern, I'm not sure how many good friends Martha has, she seems to have spent most of her time making money, not friends. Her own daughter doesn't speak very well about her and it doesn't seem to bother her, thats cold.I hope she finds happiness, thats something Rachel Ray seems to have that martha doesn't happiness, just my opinion,
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth! When you put it that way it almost makes me feel sad for Martha Stewart...
ReplyDeleteSuper great investigative reporting. I appreciate Martha's knowledge of cooking and homemaking skills. She is super rigid and stiff but she knows her stuff. I was in her audience in NYC a couple of years ago and she was unapproachable to the audience and guest which was Russell Crowe. She's very "socially retarded" no disrespect intended. Building empires, not friends. I do have a lot of her cookbooks and I also loved her older shows. That's where I learned to entertain.
ReplyDeleteLYNDS,
ReplyDeleteMARTHA DOES KNOW A LOT OF STUFF ABOUT A LOT OF STUFF, BUT I FEEL LIKE DUE
2 HER NON PEOPLE FRIENDLY PERSONA, IT TRULY REMOVES EVEN THE MOST MINISCULE AMOUNT OF RESPECT ONE MIGHT NATURALLY FEEL TOWARDS SUM ONE WHO IS INDEED SO KNOWLEDGEABLE.
I AGREE WITH GRANDMA CHEAP CHEAP, I THINK MARTHA IS SOCIALLY RETARDED AND
I HAVE 2 WONDER HOW SHE EVER GOT 2 B AS POPULAR AS SHE WAS WITHOUT ANY SORT OF PEOPLE SKILLS WHATSOEVER.
I LIKE RACHAEL, ALTHO SHE IS A WEE BIT HYPER IN THE PEP DEPARTMENT, BUT IF I HAD 2 CHOOSE BETWEEN 2 PEPPY AND ABSOLUTELY NO APPARENT EMOTIONS OR ANY SIGN OF THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS, I'D FAR RATHER TAKE MISS PEPPY THAN THE COLD HEARTED MS STONE FACE.
JUSS SAYIN'.
YER COCKTAIL HAS ME DROOLING IN MY LAP.
I'VE NEVER HAD A BELLINI B4, BUT I SURELY WOULD ORDER ONE NOW IF IT WAS LIKE THE ONE U MADE 2DAY.
O--M--G, GF, OFF THE CHAIN!
AGAIN, WISHING U A VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY 2MORROW, HUN.
YER FAVE BEECHARMER,
~IDGY/ERIN~
I think you cocktail sounds amazing, I sure wish I had everything on hand to make some for today. Happy Mothers Day to you.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to try it another day - it's so cool and refreshing! Happy Mother's day to you too Pattie!
ReplyDeleteI meant to read this, the other day, but got side tracked, LOL. I personally like Rachael Ray. Sure she's annoying a tad, but I like that she doesn't put on airs.... what we see is pretty much who she is. I mean what other celebrity would have an all out panic attack on the air, because she's playing a creepy animal game?? Nothing hoity toity about her.
ReplyDeleteWhile Martha is brilliant in her cooking and entertaining ventures, she seems very cold and unpersonable. I'd rather be likeable, than a snob.....
